Neasden School Council

Why do we have a School’s Council?

The School’s Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, as it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

What do we do?

Members of the School Council take part in discussions and votes and also feed back any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council. Members meet regularly with Mrs Drinkall. All School Councillors take part in interviewing new members of staff.

Who can be a member of the School Council?

We have an active School Council with a boy and girl representing their fellow pupils from Year 1 to Year 6. Each councillor is elected by their classmates at the beginning of the school year after a short presentation explaining why they should be elected. The members then elect a Chair, an Assistant Chair and a Secretary.

What have we done so far?

  • We organise new playtime equipment
  • Setup and manage breaktime tuckshop
  • Organised a non uniform day
  • A residential trip takes place for Year 6
  • Manage the school Christmas Fair

Eco Schools Award

At Neasden Primary, we are committed to promoting sustainability and reducing our environmental impact. As part of this effort, our School Council is aiming to work towards achieving the Eco Schools Award. This is a child led project which involves a rigorous evaluation of our practices, including waste management, energy consumption and the children’s transportation to and from school. Through this process, we aim to identify areas where we can improve and implement changes that will help us become more eco-friendly. We believe that by taking these steps, we can not only reduce our environmental footprint but also inspire others to follow our lead and work towards a more sustainable future.
