The children had a World War themed day. The purpose of the day was to promote the children’s awareness of the 2 World Wars.
Two Normandy veterans visited the school for the day and educated the children on what it was like to fight in the war and how it changed lives today.
Mr Mike Fuller also spent the day in school; one of the organisations Mr Fuller is involved with is the Freedom Flame. The Freedom Flame has been burning continuously since 12th September 1948 when it was lit by Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery. It was lit in Portsmouth and was taken to Bayeux in Normandy and then to Eindhoven these towns have been designated the first towns to be liberated. It is a symbol of freedom and is a physical reminder of Montgomery’s famous words “Let us be strong in the resolve to stand firmly for freedom and justice in an unsettled world”.
Neasden has been presented with one the torches that carried the Freedom Flame and will be invited back next year with the torch to help commemorate the end of the II World War, when the school will be visited by more war veterans and widows.
